Stress in the Box
I always think of myself as a pretty fluid cook. I mean, give me a haphazardly stocked fridge and I can pretty much put together a good meal that anyone could enjoy. That’s why I’m surprised to report how stressed I am over this organic box that I inherited after a friend went out of town unexpectedly.
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) boxes are gaining popularity around cities where popping by an actual farm on the way home from work is not an option. Basically, you just sign up on line, fill in your address and miraculously a huge box of farm fresh produce shows up at your front door every week. For some, particularly in the Bay Area, this is a way of life.
My problem-- all that good food! It gets me stressed. It’s one thing to toss a half of a head of lettuce from the grocery store if you just didn’t get to it, but when it’s straight from the farm, isn’t it a personal blow to the farmer. Then again, at the very least he’d probably be happy to know that I compost!
Does anyone out there care to tell me how they deal with their produce delivery?
