Three Cotton Candies with a Pineapple Chaser Please
This summer my family and I made our pilgramage to "the happiest place on earth". (Notice they picked happiest, not healthiest in their slogan.) Yes, two nights in Disneyland where I anticipated meals of hot dogs and snacks of unadulterated sugar and salt. Nothing against a little indulgence, but I was pleasantly suprised to find out how wrong I was!
I had heard that Disney was going for a healthful spin on their snacks, but I had no idea they'd really come through. Sure you can still get a bag of cotton candy for breakfast, popcorn for a midmorning snack, a hand-dipped corn dog to rival the best country fair faire and the rest of the usual suspects, but there's more. Fruit stands dot this sugar-coated theme park with fresh cut ripe mango, pinepple and melons, clusters of grapes and whole apples and pear. Not just one, but several of them...it's like they're saying, fruit can be fun too you know!
Did we have ice cream for dinner and chicken fingers for dessert? Who wouldn't? But a little juicy mango around noon was a refreshing choice regardless of our other options.
